What inspired you to join CareMessage?
Growing up in Silicon Valley I always felt that founders and companies were rarely thinking about the plethora of problems that impact marginalized communities. CareMessage’s explicit intention to solve problems for underserved communities was a big part of why I joined the team. Additionally, the diversity of the team reaffirmed my decision. The people building our product have experienced the very problems we’re trying to solve, making the work environment inclusive and affirming.
What does it mean to you to bring your unique perspectives to your work?
The communities I most identify with are: The global Immigrant community, the black community, women of color, the Muslim community and first generation college graduates.
What privilege looks like for a lot of people is being able to bring their whole and authentic selves to work. It means everything for me to be able to show up as my whole self each day and to know that my perspectives and passions not only make me a diverse member of the team but that they are integral to our product development process. Having a team that directly reflects the populations we serve means that our product is built with intention and integrity.

What keeps you motivated in your career?
Knowing that my voice matters, and my particular intersectionalities, which come with both privilege and hardship, are at an essential nexus allowing me to critically examine problems from a rare perspective.
How has your career evolved to get to where you are today?
I bounced from Education to Public Policy/Local Government and now, to Tech. A common thread has always been solving problems for people who are left out of or excluded from the narrative. At CareMessage, I started in Customer Support and made a switch into Product Management.

Exploring Belo Horizonte, Brazil
What is your favorite CM memory?
Our product retreat in Brazil in 2018! Diversity at CareMessage is global, and having employees with a world view different than ours has reminded me of the creativity in our roles and how with the right team cohesion we can build lasting solutions.
What is the next thing you’re looking to learn?
Outside of work: Signed up a for a kickboxing / self defense class! Within work: Building expertise in product management and perfecting my user research methodologies.
