Customer Spotlight: St. Anthony’s Medical Clinic

We are excited to introduce our new customer spotlight series with St. Anthony’s Medical Clinic, a CareMessage partner since 2013.
St. Anthony’s is located in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood and provides care to over 4,000 patients per year. St. Anthony’s Medical Clinic embodies the CareMessage vision and mission to impact underserved populations and reduce health disparities.

St. Anthony’s has taken a holistic approach to general wellness with a special focus on their diabetic population. As part of their effort to improve the lives of their underserved diabetic population, St. Anthony’s conducts diabetes classes, enrolls patients in the CareMessage Diabetes Health Education Program, organizes an annual Diabetes Day, runs text messaging campaigns targeting gaps in care, and sends immunizations reminders.

Partners in Evaluation
Before deciding to roll out the use of CareMessage to their broader population, St. Anthony’s ran a three-month pilot study using CareMessage in partnership with the Public Health Institute. They evaluated whether a text-messaging intervention could improve the health of 101 low-income, English and Spanish-speaking patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. The study found that 94% of participants who completed the program indicated that the text messages helped them better manage their chronic conditions.
