100M Messages
This is a version of the message that went out to our team members, customers and donors today.
Dear Team, Customers and Donors,
In November 2013, when Cecilia and I saw the very first messages sent via CareMessage to the first few patients on the platform, a number like 1 million messages was just a distant vision to us. As of late May 2020, we surpassed 100 million messages exchanged to and from patients on the CareMessage platform.
Still, it feels like a strange time to be celebrating any milestone given what is going on around us. CareMessage has been devoted to addressing racial disparities in our healthcare system, particularly for low-income patients of color, for the past several years. The events of the last few days only reinforce the need for change.
We are even more committed to playing a role in helping address these healthcare disparities. Our renewed mission and vision statements — which we will roll out alongside our new website in the next few weeks — will reflect our commitment to approach the next phase of our organization’s growth with a continued focus on driving equity in healthcare. We look forward to sharing that renewed mission and vision with you soon.
Surpassing such a milestone, reaching the millions of underserved patients we do, and seeing the positive impacts on patients’ lives in the form of improved health outcomes and seeing their essential needs fulfilled would not be possible without all of you who are reading this right now.
Without our team — the dozens of people spread out across the US, Brazil, Chile, and India who come together every day to make an impact on the world through the work they do — CareMessage wouldn’t exist, let alone be able to serve our customers and put our donors’ generosity to work. You have built and scaled the CareMessage platform, helped our customers find repeated success with it, and cultivated a culture steeped in our values of empathy, collaboration, innovation, drive, and integrity. I’m lucky and proud to get to work with all of you day after day.
Without our customers — the nearly 300 Community Health Centers and Free and Charitable Clinics across the US who are on the ground and part of a network serving roughly 30 million patients nationwide — we wouldn’t be able to serve our mission. CareMessage is a patient engagement platform for underserved populations, and our entire reason for existing is to build and leverage technology that empowers you, as the safety-net providers for underserved populations, to fulfill the essential needs of your patients. We continue to be inspired every day by the outcomes patients in your care continue to see, and by your tireless efforts, especially during the ongoing pandemic.
Without our donors — the generous individual philanthropists and impactful institutions who have together supported and bolstered our ability to serve our mission — we would have failed years ago. Together, you have collectively given CareMessage over $25 million over the years to enable us to grow our team, scale our infrastructure, and build and innovate our product, all while “keeping the lights on.” From the earliest days of CareMessage until now, your enduring belief in and generous support of our work are appreciated more than we can ever express.
And so, thank you for the role that each of you plays in making CareMessage what it is today. Together we are working toward a world where all people regardless of income or background achieve equitable health outcomes. We’ve come a long way these past years, and I’m confident that it’s only the beginning for us.
